BC Summer Games – Power and Speed Group Shines

Excellent work by members of the Valley Royals power/speed group on July 21-24 at the BC Summer Games, in Prince George.

Gurpartap Sandhu posted a huge personal best score in the gruelling pentathlon thanks to personal best performances in the 80 meter hurdles, long jump, shot put and 800. Gurpartap also helped her 4 x 100 relay team to a very respectable 5th place finish.

Evan Booth excelled in the jumps posting a season best performance in the high jump to place 16th, a personal best in the triple jump of 10.65 to finish 9th and strong showing in the pole vault to capture the bronze medal.    Evan also helped his Zone 3 team to a 5th in the 4 x 100 relay.

Charlie Franson ran a personal best time in the 200 to place 18th. He was stronger in the field placing 12th in the discus and, with a massive throw of 38.96meters, Charlie claimed the silver medal.

Despite a punishing schedule of four races in a few short hours, Luke Wight made the final in both the 300 meter hurdles placing 5th and the flat 300 placing 8th.    The next day, on a set of very tired legs, Luke pulled out a personal best in the triple jump of 10.96 to finish 8th.

After this, Luke could barely walk, so a big special thanks to Sam May of the middle distance crew for stepping in to take Luke’s spot on the 4 x 400 relay team which went on to capture the gold for Zone 3.

Special thanks also to Kathy Andrews and Sheri Hall for coaching the Zone 3 team.

A shout out to all of the games organizers, volunteers, officials and to the beautiful city of Prince George for putting on such an amazing summer games.   – Coach Trevor
