Covid 19 Update from Head Coach Trevor Wight

Dear Royals Family,

I wanted to provide a quick update as to how the Royals are addressing the ongoing situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.   You have undoubtably heard of the new restrictions for the Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health regions in place until November 23rd. Fortunately for us, because our training is outside, our groups remain largely unaffected at this point.

This said, safety remains a shared responsibility.  We must all continue to be vigilant with how we conduct ourselves both at and away from practice.   Please review the club’s COVID-19 safety protocols listed below.

-All training, for all groups, will remain outdoors until further notice, likely throughout the entire winter

-Wash / sanitize hands before and after practice.

-Wash /sanitize any equipment

-No sharing of water bottles.

-Maintain a physical distance of 2 meters (otherwise wear a mask)

-Health checks are and will continue to be done at every practice.  The coach will take attendance and ask how athletes are feeling.   By showing up and saying “I’m fine” athletes are confirming that:

-they have none of the following symptoms:   fever, chills, cough (new or worsening chronic

cough), shortness of breath, loss of sense of smell or taste, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting.

-they haven’t been outside the country in the past 14 days

-they, nor anyone in their household has a confirmed case of COVID-19, nor are they awaiting COVID-19 test result.

Thank you all very much for your understanding and patience with this evolving situation.   We will continue to keep you posted as to any changes and/or new developments

Yours in Sport,

Trevor Wight,

Head Coach, Valley Royals Track and Field Club

Royals Athletes Receive Lower Mainland Series Award Plaques

As the 2020 Cross Country Season draws to a close, the Valley Royals would like to acknowledge some amazing athetic performances from the 2019 Lower Mainland Series:

  • Alexia Smith placed 2nd for Girls age 10
  • Riley Simmonds placed 3rd for Boys age 11
  • Teagan Scholander placed 3rd for Girls age 13

The Lower Mainland Cross Country Series has been an annual event in BC for many years and highlighted some of the top athletes in the province. Unfortunately, this racing series was disrupted in 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The club’s annual awards banquet was also disrupted so award plaques from the 2019 Lower Mainland Series were presented outdoors at Clearbrook Park during Cross Country practice this fall.

These awards are based on scores from the athlete’s 4 best race performances in various meets that qualified for the Lower Mainland Cross Country Series. The points for each race were assigned as follows: 1st = 30 points, 2nd = 27, 3rd = 25, 4th = 23, 5th = 21, 6th to 25th each place drops 1 point. Any ties were decided by position in the BC Provincial Championship event. Plaques were awarded to the top 3 boys and girls in each age group.

Congratulations to Alexia, Riley and Teagan for acheiving such great racing results last season and for continuing to train with the Royals in the 2020 Cross Country season as well.

Update from Coach Scott

Congratulations on a great fall session. We had a large, enthusiastic, and hard working group of first rate athletes who were dedicated to their running. We competed in two meets and represented our club proudly and we will know shortly if we will have the opportunity to compete at BC Championships.

We have been training at Clearbrook to date and as we move into our winter session we will be changing venues starting next week:

• Starting Tuesday, November 10th, we will be moving to the Delair Park Rugby Pitch

• Thursdays, starting  November 12th, we’ll be at Jane and Gerry Swan Track, Rotary Stadium.

• Saturday mornings we will remain at Clearbrook Park.

Practice times will remain the same.
