Our Valley Royals Distance crew had another fantastic experience this past weekend at the Oregon Relays. Running on Historic Heyward Field at the University of Oregon, our athletes burned it up running strongly against some of the best competition in the United States.
Sam May, Arata Nakanishi, and Jonah Dyck opened our day on Friday with a strong showing in the Steeplechase event, finishing 5th and 9th, though with Jonah receiving no official result due to a technical foul but running well nonetheless. This was followed up by Laken Olsen and Lucy Orr, who finished 21st and 18th in the Freshman 2-mile event.
In the feature mile Adrianna Buitelaar ran strongly, narrowly losing out to Pacific Northwest NXR Champion Chloe Huyler and defeating American National 2-mile champion Addison Ritzenhein to finish second.
In the boys feature, Mile Riley Simmonds and Sam May ran strongly to finish 12th and 16th respectively. In the feature section of the 800m event, Maggie Epp and Adrianna Buitelaar both ran very strongly to finish 8th and 2nd. Riley Simmonds also ran strongly in the 800m to finish 13th.
A big shout out to our parents and families who made the seven hour drive to Eugene and made this event happen with their persistence and dedication. Well done, Royals. – Coach Scott
