BC Summer Games – Distance Group Excels

Our Valley Royals U16 members of the distance group had the time of their lives this past week at the British Columbia Summer Games, in Prince George.  Representing the East Fraser Valley, our crew rose to the occasion yet again and represented themselves and their hometowns with pride. From a fantastic opening ceremony with eight thousand people in the arena, to multiple scheduled events and community activities planned for the approximately 4000 athletes and team staff, the city of Prince George outdid themselves and were wonderful hosts to our young athletes – giving them a time they will never forget. Running against the best competition our province had to offer, our Valley Royals distance group had the best showing of any club in British Columbia.

So very, very, well done to you all and I am so proud of each and every one of you.  – Coach Scott

BC Summer Games – Power and Speed Group Shines

Excellent work by members of the Valley Royals power/speed group on July 21-24 at the BC Summer Games, in Prince George.

Gurpartap Sandhu posted a huge personal best score in the gruelling pentathlon thanks to personal best performances in the 80 meter hurdles, long jump, shot put and 800. Gurpartap also helped her 4 x 100 relay team to a very respectable 5th place finish.

Evan Booth excelled in the jumps posting a season best performance in the high jump to place 16th, a personal best in the triple jump of 10.65 to finish 9th and strong showing in the pole vault to capture the bronze medal.    Evan also helped his Zone 3 team to a 5th in the 4 x 100 relay.

Charlie Franson ran a personal best time in the 200 to place 18th. He was stronger in the field placing 12th in the discus and, with a massive throw of 38.96meters, Charlie claimed the silver medal.

Despite a punishing schedule of four races in a few short hours, Luke Wight made the final in both the 300 meter hurdles placing 5th and the flat 300 placing 8th.    The next day, on a set of very tired legs, Luke pulled out a personal best in the triple jump of 10.96 to finish 8th.

After this, Luke could barely walk, so a big special thanks to Sam May of the middle distance crew for stepping in to take Luke’s spot on the 4 x 400 relay team which went on to capture the gold for Zone 3.

Special thanks also to Kathy Andrews and Sheri Hall for coaching the Zone 3 team.

A shout out to all of the games organizers, volunteers, officials and to the beautiful city of Prince George for putting on such an amazing summer games.   – Coach Trevor

BC Athletics and JD Championship Results

Our Valley Royals JD athletes had a great showing at the British Columbia Junior Development Championships, this past weekend in South Surrey. Our athletes gave it their all, competing against the best competition in the province, and there were lots of smiles and great performances.

Honorable mentions go to Averie Westbrook in the long jump and to our throwers Thomas Wight, Damien Brown, Rex Johnson, Jessie Booth, Deah Kondolay, and Chloe Mckerrow, who all were gold medalists in their events.

Our 2013 boys 4x100m team also were top in their division. These were great performances at the provincial level, and all of our athletes represented us with pride and distinction and many were in the medals.

Well done Royals and a big shout out to all of our young athletes and the families that support them for a great season.  – Coach Scott
